Royal Palm Beach is a village in southeast Florida, located within Palm Beach County. The population was measured at 21,523 in the 2000 census. As of April 2008, the recorded population was 31,864. The village is located approximately fifteen miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean.
Royal Palm Beach is known for its many parks and general mission to protect green space, as evidenced by the recent acquisition of 190 acres to create a master central park and the development of 25 acres preserved into a passive bird watching and nature park. The village offers a variety of activities for the outdoor and sports enthusiast including soccer, basketball, tennis, Pop Warner youth football and cheer, senior activities, and year-round golf programs. The public schools within the Village consist of "A"-rated elementary and middle schools and there are numerous private schools offering classes from pre-kindergarten through high school.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 21,523 people, 7,604 households, and 5,976 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,176.0 inhabitants per square mile. There were 8,083 housing units at an average density of 817.2 per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 78.15% White (69.4% were Non-Hispanic White,) 14.21% African American, 0.28% Native American, 2.63% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.30% from other races, and 2.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.83% of the population.
There were 7,604 households of which 63.9% were childfree married couples, 42% had children under the age of 18 living in them, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-related individuals. 17.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.20.
